How College Football Territory Mapping Works
All 130+ FBS teams start with territory based on a Voronoi diagram from their campus location — natural boundaries formed by which school is closest to each point. Beat your rival? Their territory is yours. Lose to an FCS team? Your empire vanishes faster than playoff hopes in November. This system rewards winning streaks and punishes every loss equally — which means that Week 2 upset can haunt you all season as you watch Appalachian State own half of Michigan.
Territory Rules
Every FBS school starts with territory nearest their campus (Voronoi diagram)
Winners take everything the loser currently controls
Bowl games and playoffs follow the same winner-takes-all rules
Neutral site games follow standard territory rules
New season = clean slate with original territories
